Live Laugh Smile Scholarship Program

LiveLaughSmile_Scholarship_Sudbury_Braces_Invisalign_Orthodontist

The LIVE LAUGH LEARN scholarship program is intended to encourage and reward academic merit, community leadership, initiative and participaction among children and young adults in the Greater Sudbury area and Mississauga / Port Credit.  The scholarship is in the name of Dr. Virdee’s parents, Kuldip and Gurinder Virdee.  As a young immigrant couple with two children, Dr. Virdee’s parents struggled financially initially while they were trying to carve out a life for themselves and their children in London, Ontario.   Both her mother and father would work during the day and go to school in the evenings to upgrade their educational requirements in hopes of finding better jobs.  Hand-me-downs, shopping at discount stores, and penny pinching was not unfamiliar to the Virdee family.  However, throughout their struggles, Dr. Virdee’s parents always sacrificed their own needs for their children’s education so that they would have the opportunities to one day Live Laugh Smile!  Whether it was school trips, books, or supplies for projects, both Kuldip and Gurinder made sure that their children had everything they needed to do well in school.  The most inspiring thing that Gurinder Virdee did for her children was to be a mentor and  go back to school in her 30s and 40s and earn the privilege of becoming an educator in Canada – something that she has always been passionate about and helps her to Live Laugh Smile everyday.  As an award winning teacher, even now, Gurinder Virdee emphasizes the importance of education in the pursuit of  happiness  – whether it be in the arts and sciences, philosophy or business or in orthodontics!

“I feel humbled to be accepted into this profession and I can’t imagine doing anything but serving my community as an orthodontist. However, I could not have achieved my goals without the help and encouragement of my family and friends, my teachers and my professors – all of whom were my mentors in some way and inspired and helped me to do what I truly love.”
