What about Emergency Visits?

Orthodontic emergencies are rare, but can happen.  A true orthodontic emergency is when a patient is in pain.  This is usually due to a poking wire or poking brace or bracket.  We try to see these patients as soon as possible to get them more comfortable.  All other emergencies, such as broken brackets or broken elastic chains, or loose appliances that are NOT causing pain, are not a true orthodontic emergency.  We usually try to see these patients as soon as possible to resolve their issues for them.  You can call the Sudbury orthodontics office line at 705-470-4700 or the Port Credit orthodontics office at 905-278-6513.  There are other ways that you can take care of orthodontic emergencies all by yourself at home if you can’t get to our office quick enough.  Visit our Orthodontic Emergencies page for more information.

What happens at each adjustment/check up appointment?

A vital key to your treatment success will be regular check-ups with Dr. Virdee, whether you are at the Port Credit Orthodontics office or the Sudbury orthodontics office.  We suggest intervals of every eight to ten weeks.  Our team will work with you to ensure that appointments are convenient and fit your schedule. For best results, visiting your family dentist once every six months for routine cleanings and dental check-ups is vital, even during your orthodontic treatment.   The Hometown team can help coordinate this for you too!  We look forward to transforming your smile and getting to know you during your orthodontic journey with us!

What can I expect when I start orthodontic treatment?

Starting treatment:  Your First Steps to LIVE. LAUGH. SMILE.

Your second appointment marks the initial step in the journey to achieving a confident, youthful, and healthy smile. Be ready to start your treatment on this day.  The Hometown team will begin the treatment that was discussed and agreed upon in your initial consultation.  This may mean installing braces on your upper teeth, taking an impression or a scan for an appliance that will specifically made for your mouth or taking an impression or scan for Invisalign.  This is also a great opportunity to ask follow-up questions and discuss any other treatment related issues with Dr. Virdee, your best bet for an orthodontist in Sudbury or an orthodontist in Clarkson or Port Credit and surrounding areas.

What will my first visit at Dr. Virdee’s orthodontic office be like?

Initial Consultation:  Meet Dr. Virdee and Assess your Needs

Whether you are looking for braces in Sudbury or Invisalign in Mississauga, during your first visit, our goal will be to get to know you and your teeth – and of course, this is a great opportunity for you to meet the team and ask questions.  This appointment is complimentary, and by the end of exam, Dr. Virdee will recommend treatment options for you based on your diagnostic records, personal goals, timelines, and budget.  Dr. Virdee will also take the time to answer all your questions so that you understand everything that you need to know in order to proceed with treatment.  Ultimately, we want you to feel confident that your dental health and smile is in the best hands before you begin treatment with us.  You can expect the following:

  1.  Review of dental and medical history forms
  2.  Complete a thorough examination with a digital panoramic x-ray (if needed) and photos
  3.  Explanation of findings, recommend treatment and estimated treatment time
  4.  Create a customized treatment plan and treatment options specifically for you
  5.  Discuss all financial information, insurance options, and payment plans

How do I know if I need treatment?

If your self-esteem is affected by your smile, a free consultation will reveal your options.   A great smile is important in feeling confident and helping you put your best foot forward.  Also, if you have a ‘bad bite’, visiting an orthodontist is imperative in order to reduce future dental and health issues. Advancements in orthodontics have made treatment increasingly convenient and affordable.   You have so many options that are available to you that are more comfortable, easy to keep clean and less visible than in the past. New techniques and materials can extend the period between appointments, saving you time and expense.

How much does treatment cost?

Depending on the treatment options, costs will vary.  We’ll be sure to walk you through payment plans and options during your first complementary appointment so that you can make the best decision.  Please keep in mind that treatment should be considered an investment that will provide you with infinite value so that you can LIVE, LAUGH, SMILE for a lifetime.  Please go to our Patient Financials to find out more.

Are there any options to help hide the fact that I have braces?

The options that are available today to straighten teeth have far surpassed traditional metal braces – these options are discrete, quicker and more comfortable! From clear aligners to clear braces to braces that fit behind your teeth, the choice is your!

When is it too late for adults to have orthodontic treatment?

It’s never too late.  Healthy teeth can be moved at any age.  In fact, advancements in orthodontics make treatment options less obvious and less painful.  There has never been a better time for people in their 40s, 50s, and beyond to get started.

When should my child first see an Orthodontist?

The American Association of Orthodontists recommends that your child should get an orthodontic screening no later than the age of seven.  The earlier this appointment is booked, the better the chances of avoiding surgery or other serious and costly corrections later in life.  Many orthodontic problems are easier to correct if detected early, rather than waiting until jaw growth has slowed.

Why is Orthodontics important?

Orthodontic treatment is not only about achieving a nice straight smile; there are other benefits as well.  These include:

  • Physical health: better tooth and jaw function, improved chewing and digestion
  • Emotional health: Improved self-image and a boost in self-esteem
  • Dental health:  improved access for brushing and flossing which will in turn reduce chances of decay, gingivitis and periodontal bone loss (gum and bone disease), reduced unwanted wear and chipping of teeth, improved speech, decreased risk of tooth loss and dental injuries
